Some of you may or may not know of my interest in psychology, but if you don't, you should know that I love to research what makes different people tick! :D

So a few weeks back, when I was reading about the 16 different personality types, I started picking out which Hetalia characters the archetypes sounded like! Call me crazy, but it ended up leading me to analyzing all the types and sorting the Hetalia characters that I'm familiar with into their respective categories.

If characters are missing off this list, it's likely because I'm not familiar enough with their personality to sort them. I would love it if you want to discuss, or perhaps even challenge, the list I've made! Even better if you have ideas about where other characters may fit. :D

These are the pages that I mainly used for my speculation, if you're so inclined:
www.typelogic.com/
www.personalitypage.com/html/h…
jammerlee.deviantart.com/art/S…

Pages about the personalities' relationships:
www.socionics.com/rel/rel.htm
hubpages.com/hub/Your-Personal…
www.socionics.com/rel/relcht.h…

Easy steps to determine personality traits:

And my personal favorite psychology page (created by a fellow ENTP, how about that!):

To determine the 2P personality type of a character, take the two middle characters and change them to their opposite letter type.

The nice thing about figuring their personality types is that it offers greater insight to their interactions; and, if you know your personality type, might tell you how you would fit in with the Hetalia countries~

"Why did you even bother with something this silly, Nemu?" Why, because I can, of course~ I was studying the types already, so why not add in another element while I was at it? :dummy:

Well, as I've experienced it, being an INFJ can be both interesting and scary at times XD So I guess it fits pretty well ^^ Great job on the chart! I have a friend who is an ESFJ, and when I think about it, she's a lot like Italy and Hungary XD

Austria and Estonia? Not too bad, I suppose.
I've seen France typed as an ESTP and America as an ESFP (I see him more as an ESTP because of the bullheadedness, as well as the strange similarities with a fellow ESTP, JFK.) From what I've seen in the anime and manga, Turkey seems to be more of an ENTJ, somehow energetic yet completely stubborn.

I've seen France typed as an ESTP before, too, and I really disagree. :\  I mean, ESTP and ENFP are extremely different, so it'd have to be a confusion of the definitions themselves in order to get them wrong.

I can see what you mean with Turkey... especially his attitude when it came to conquering Europe. When I chose him as ENTP, I was going off of his wiki profile that stated he enjoyed "new things", and tended to partake in "one up-manship" or being really competitive, which ENTP's are commonly described as being.

What is your opinion on Prussia's type? TBH, he's given me the most indecision between ESTP and ENTP of any character ever.

I really see ESTP. Similar to America (and JFK, both whom I consider ESTPs. I will be using him quite a bit,) Prussia is extremely arrogant and energetic, as well as charismatic. An ENTP would be interested in deeper and more abstract/creative pursuits (like France, who despite being an ENFP, gets in his fair share of nostalgic and philosophical parts in the series), none which I see in Prussia.

Excellent points. ^^ That helps quite a bit, thank you~ You're quite good at this. :D
What got me thinking Prussia might be ENTP is that both ESTPs and ENTPs have high opinions of themselves, and that Prussia was exceptionally organized in his private life. Getting a second opinion helps clear it up. :)

Hmm, not so sure about the mochis, but the Nyotalia definitely differ. My theory is that the genderswaps have the last letter of their type switched. It gets really interesting when you get the 2Ps Nyotalia. XD

I always thought Romano was an ISTP, and honestly I think Japan is a bit too diplomatic to be ine but who can argue with badassness? Sweet, I can be Norway though.

Thank you for commenting! :D

For Romano, I admit I found him difficult to type, since he has quite a few features that aren't necessarily easy to distinguish based on the type descriptions. Lately, I've been much more assured with my selections.
Romano often focuses on the past, using his past to measure the present, like with his jealousy towards his brother, and his zealous behavior towards Germans, which makes him a Si-dom. (ISTJ, ISFJ) I definitely know that Romano isn't very in touch with other's opinions, so he wouldn't be ISFJ. :lmao:

And you're right, Japan is very diplomatic to be an ISTP, but I couldn't imagine him being a Fe-dom (ENFJ, ESFJ) or even Fe secondary (ISFJ, INFJ), and his Thinking function is well developed with how he applies his knowledge and logic to everything he encounters, which leaves ISTP or INTP. When I typed him, my main thought was the description's focus on ISTP inclination towards mechanical hobbies. So, yes, I've been considering that he might actually be an INTP, considering his predisposition away from conflict (which is more common in INTPs than in ISTPs). But at the same time, I'm not really sure I could consider him the same type as Greece... but Japan does enjoy theory, and doesn't consider his past very often, so I might end up switching him to INTP.

Thanks for bringing that up! I hope you enjoyed this journal! :meow:

i love your list :3 although using the cognitive functions i'd say poland is more of an ENTP because he seems to have a leading extroverted intuition (i dont really see a sensing getting the rather creative idea of putting a rocket onto his country to fly it around) and he also seems to have a supporting introverted thinking (i mean he had pretty good logic with his chain letter to russia even if he forgot a few facts)  as well as having a relief extroverted feeling (this is where i think a lot of his flamboyancy comes from) he just strikes me as being a very flamboyant ENTP XD

Awww! Such an amazingly well thought out comment, and your account is deactivated! D:

That makes a surprising amount of sense... The way that he comes up with crazy ideas and has such sass does line up with the definition of an ENTP, if a little flamboyant (as you pointed out). There's also the way that he told the story about the dragon to Lithuania that also points to him being an ENTP type, with how well he told the story with gripping interest. And then there's the fact he obviously is extremely optimistic and quite the procrastinator, when Lithuania told him about Russia coming to invade, and Poland talking about how "he's totally got it under control" and then proceeds to chatter about the latest thing that caught his interest. His mind bounces all over the place!

I love the MBTI test! I think all your assessments are correct. In my business classes we discuss MBTI a lot, and how it we should be aware that everyone is different and thus works in teams differently.  At least, that is how my professors wanted us to use it… I mostly use it to look up memes. XD

Great job.  My other source of confusion is Austria's type. ENTJs are natural leaders, and I have a hard time picturing him as a leader for some reason. :P

Thank you~ I get what you mean about Austria, though. I thought the same at first. I use his position in the Hapsburg Empire to decide that he was an ENTJ. Even though things were falling apart on him towards the end, he was handling the pressure really well.

The Personality Test is highly accurate. Upon completion, the results the Test provided of my personality spectrum were all completely accurate. In fact, it was quite uncanny to read the description of my interactions detailed exactly- even to the most minute of traits.

And this is not at all silly! In fiction, it is incumbent on us to deduce the personality types of characters- in essence, once we discover and can study the types each character exhibits, we can better learn to apply and learn the external traits of people in real life.

For example, studying certain types in people in real life aided me greatly in fleshing out the quirks, gestures and personality traits in my writings- esp in Amber-eyed Beauty and Blue-eyed Beast.

Canada and I would get along swimmingly- we're both ISFJ!

The personality test is really accurate! :D I found out all sorts of things from the profiles and questions asked on the test~ Though, I don't think I can use the test to figure out characters, though...

You think so? :iconawwwplz: I'm very glad~ There are some people that believe that categorizing character's personalities restricts a person's ability to make the character fluid and evolving... But I personally believe that finding out a character's personality will help me understand how they think. :D

It certainly shows that you studied! The way your characters act and interact are so flowing and vivid!

Oooh~ An ISFJ! :D I think you might be the first ISFJ to comment on my journal! That's pretty awesome! :meow:

It is surprisingly accurate!
While one's character cannot be summed up or measured entirely within the consistencies of the test's parameter, the test can aid in at least assessing a basic outline of one's personality.

Our personality governs the manner in which we conduct ourselves in social settings, and in turn how our personalities can affect other's mood, ideas, impressions or influences.

Categorizing does not limit a character's development- as long as the categorizing is not the entire canvas the character is measured and portrayed in. The categorizing can only help by mapping out possibilities of a character's reaction.

For example, a character like Germany- based on his traits and preferences, he fall under the ESTJ category. Given this assessment, we can learn of his preferred methods of handling situations. He is aggressive in resolving an issue as neatly and promptly as possible without compromising on efficiency for future prevention.

We can observe this trait be played out as he attempts to salvage the chaotic cacophony of the world meetings. He berates Italy's out-of-focus whimsy and is underwhelmed to a greater degree(by expecting more from Japan)  with Japan's passive compliance with other countries.

In a character like Italy, we note how his ESFJ personality determines how he adheres to tradition but is willing to be flexible to ensure the happiness of all. Despite his laid-back and slightly disorganized methods, he is undoubtedly the Caretaker of the nations. His concern for other constantly occupies his time- without having or wanting to cheer Germany or some elicit some emotive response from Japan, or even enjoying whimsies with the likes of Finland and America, Italy's own happiness would decrease considerably.

On the other hand, being an ISTP as Japan is, this inclines him as a more fact and result oriented person. He is willing to forego tradition if it entails to a commercial or social success. Emotions are viewed as pitfall for results, so he averts in invoking any emotional response.
However, because of his drive for efficiency, he is able to find commonality with Germany who shares this trait with him.
Italy's friendship offers a welcome if but overwhelmingly sentimental respite from the cold logic of his own world.

Despite his rigidly reclusive nature, Japan's focus on improving his external conditions has placed him, in essence, a foot in both worlds.

Based on the categories of these characters, this has helped me immensely with characters. However, it is plied with caution, as being completely dependent on this method can confine a character's growth- characters as people will change their actions as their traits may or may not develop or react in the manner we assume they will do so.

Really? I am? :iconeeeeeeplz:

Thanks for the info. I hope you'll be able to add more Hetalia characters as time goes. In ENFP, is Rome suppose to be Romano (just to be sure)?
Also, the personalitypage website has a different compatibility (in terms of 'lovers') to your other suggested website; why do you think so? (Just curious of what you know; I took up basic psychology in college, and I've already typed myself as an INTP a decade or so back using the personalitypage website, but I don't fancy myself up-to-date with these things.)

You're welcome~! :D I hope I'll add more in the future, as I learn more about the characters...

The ENFP would be Roman Empire. :D

Hnn, I think they're different because they measure relationships differently. The Personality page is measuring relationships according to their compatibility as lovers, whereas the other page is just describing their general interaction. :meow:
