So a few weeks back, when I was reading about the 16 different personality types, I started picking out which Hetalia characters the archetypes sounded like! Call me crazy, but it ended up leading me to analyzing all the types and sorting the Hetalia characters that I'm familiar with into their respective categories.
If characters are missing off this list, it's likely because I'm not familiar enough with their personality to sort them. I would love it if you want to discuss, or perhaps even challenge, the list I've made! Even better if you have ideas about where other characters may fit.
These are the pages that I mainly used for my speculation, if you're so inclined:
Pages about the personalities' relationships:
Easy steps to determine personality traits:
And my personal favorite psychology page (created by a fellow ENTP, how about that!):
ESTP "The Doer" - America, Denmark, Prussia, Sealand, Korea
ISTP "The Mechanic" - Norway, Japan, Hong Kong
ESFP "The Performer" - Belgium, Spain, Rome
ISFP "The Artist" - Canada
ESTJ "The Guardian" - Germany
ISTJ "The Duty Fulfiller" - Switzerland, Romano, Netherlands, Belarus
ESFJ "The Caregiver" - Italy, Finland, Ukraine, Hungary
ISFJ "The Nurturer" - Sweden
ENFP "The Inspirer" - France
INFP "The Idealist" - Lithuania, Liechtenstein
ENFJ "The Giver" - China, Romania
INFJ "The Protector" - Russia
ENTP "The Visionary" - Seychelles, Poland,
INTP "The Thinker" - Greece, Iceland
ENTJ "The Executive" - Austria, Estonia, Turkey
INTJ "The Scientist" - England, Germania
To determine the 2P personality type of a character, take the two middle characters and change them to their opposite letter type.
The nice thing about figuring their personality types is that it offers greater insight to their interactions; and, if you know your personality type, might tell you how you would fit in with the Hetalia countries~
"Why did you even bother with something this silly, Nemu?" Why, because I can, of course~ I was studying the types already, so why not add in another element while I was at it?
"but may neglect the more routine aspects of life" his eyebrows speak for himself?
"Generally outspoken and assertive", "fluent conversationalists, mentally quick, and enjoy verbal sparring with others", this reminds me of every conversation he has with France.
"They highly value knowledge" Is this why he calls america a "bloody wanker"?
And, speaking as an INFP-t, no way that either of them could be that. I understand they are a bit shy, but I don't really think they are the "idealist" type. No, I'm not saying the characters are stupid, or unimaginative, they just seem way to observant to be in that category. It's like fitting a circle in a square peg, yes it would fit, but it just doesn't belong.
I'm INFP and while I see Canada as ISFP, I do relate to him a lot (some of my real-life Hetalian friends even call me Canada because I'm soft-spoken, I have blonde hair, blue eyes (some portrayals of him have him have blue eyes) and glasses, and they used to forget my real name). In fact there's plenty of characters of different MBTIs I relate a lot too.
I see America often being typed as ENFP, though TBH, I don't see much Fi or Ne in him. He's too in-the-moment and a thrill-seeker.
I also see Canada often being typed as a IXFJ, though he always came across to me as Fi-dominant , and I don't see much Ni (when he's typed as INFJ) so yeah. Plus, he kinda lacks the fantasy-proneness we N's (I'm INFP) have (not trying to stereotype all intuition users as this, but he just seems more of a sensor in my eyes. Plus, he reminds me a lot of an ISFP I know)
Sorry if it seems like I'm complaining. Once again, great list.
I can't count how many of them are wrong... So I only can say who is right. Denmark is right, also Hong Kong, Germany, Netherlands and Turkey (I am not sure with Sweden).
I am sorry to say that but it's just your opinion. I would just say that the most of them are mistyped.
Feel free to make your own article! I'd love to see more MBTI analysis for Hetalia and other fandoms.
Tho some I do not agree on tbh
I see Germany as an ISTJ and England as a INTP
Also Iceland seems like an ISFP or and INFP
I also think America would fit under ENFP and Canada as an infj or an ISFJ I can't decide as of right now.
Tho the rest I can mosty see as the type you gave them))
America is demonstrably an ENFP, als England is indeed INTP (also proven). Iceland is IxFP but I rather see him more as INFP. Canada is difficult to type... but indeed, he is IxFJ.
Also Russia is INFP, China ESTJ, Spain is ENFP, France is ESFP (he uses a lot of Se instead of Ne o.o His biggest fear is what will happen next to him so it's correct to let him be Ni-inferior).
Nobody is ENTP yet... (in Hetalia there is ENTP missed...). Seychelles is xSFP and Poland is ESFP. Lithuania is ISFJ (this is just him), North Italy is ISFP, South Italy is ISTP, Norway is INTJ. Belgium is an ESFJ.
To some of them I am not sure which type... but I am sure that they don't fit the type Nemurenainda gave them.
Which MBTI-Type are you?
Though, I am kinda curious about where England being an INTP is proven?
((Also, sorry for replying like few months later to a reply you made to someone else, but this lil' INTP here couldn't help but jump in when someone with Jungian functions knowledge pops their head in this fandom.))
His Fi game is quite strong. He questions what he is almost a few hours later he was "born".
To quote PersonalityPage and HetaliaMBTI:
“[INFPs whose introverted Feeling overshadow the other functions] may be unaware of appropriate social behavior.”
"I think it is also worth-while to note that the fact that he is often not aware of normal fashions - which, by definition, includes behaviour as well as clothing styles - and thus kind of fails at being fashionable is also an unhealthy Fi dom trait."
Also, he is highly aware of what he feels, which is staple of Fi. And he seems to keep wearing same kind of clothes and have a rather hard time trying new things out, or at least doesn't feel so much comfortable with doing so, which would point to Si somewhere on his stack.
I would highly recommend checking those two out as well: hetalia-mbti.tumblr.com/post/1… aph-mbti.tumblr.com/post/13343…
That is the type I typed my self with tbh due to the quizzes being unreliable??????????
Tho I see N.Italy as more of an ESFP than an ISFP.))
i wanted Norway or Denmark ;-;
(Isn't america ENFP?)
No, I don't think so. America's about as ESTP as you can get. He has a relatively low Feeling sense, and he's highly action based.
I've seen France typed as an ESTP and America as an ESFP (I see him more as an ESTP because of the bullheadedness, as well as the strange similarities with a fellow ESTP, JFK.) From what I've seen in the anime and manga, Turkey seems to be more of an ENTJ, somehow energetic yet completely stubborn.
I can see what you mean with Turkey... especially his attitude when it came to conquering Europe. When I chose him as ENTP, I was going off of his wiki profile that stated he enjoyed "new things", and tended to partake in "one up-manship" or being really competitive, which ENTP's are commonly described as being.
What is your opinion on Prussia's type? TBH, he's given me the most indecision between ESTP and ENTP of any character ever.
What got me thinking Prussia might be ENTP is that both ESTPs and ENTPs have high opinions of themselves, and that Prussia was exceptionally organized in his private life. Getting a second opinion helps clear it up.
I wonder, though, do the mochi or Nyotalia versions differ in personality? I wasn't too sure.
For Romano, I admit I found him difficult to type, since he has quite a few features that aren't necessarily easy to distinguish based on the type descriptions. Lately, I've been much more assured with my selections.
Romano often focuses on the past, using his past to measure the present, like with his jealousy towards his brother, and his zealous behavior towards Germans, which makes him a Si-dom. (ISTJ, ISFJ) I definitely know that Romano isn't very in touch with other's opinions, so he wouldn't be ISFJ.
And you're right, Japan is very diplomatic to be an ISTP, but I couldn't imagine him being a Fe-dom (ENFJ, ESFJ) or even Fe secondary (ISFJ, INFJ), and his Thinking function is well developed with how he applies his knowledge and logic to everything he encounters, which leaves ISTP or INTP. When I typed him, my main thought was the description's focus on ISTP inclination towards mechanical hobbies. So, yes, I've been considering that he might actually be an INTP, considering his predisposition away from conflict (which is more common in INTPs than in ISTPs). But at the same time, I'm not really sure I could consider him the same type as Greece... but Japan does enjoy theory, and doesn't consider his past very often, so I might end up switching him to INTP.
Thanks for bringing that up! I hope you enjoyed this journal!
That makes a surprising amount of sense... The way that he comes up with crazy ideas and has such sass does line up with the definition of an ENTP, if a little flamboyant (as you pointed out). There's also the way that he told the story about the dragon to Lithuania that also points to him being an ENTP type, with how well he told the story with gripping interest. And then there's the fact he obviously is extremely optimistic and quite the procrastinator, when Lithuania told him about Russia coming to invade, and Poland talking about how "he's totally got it under control" and then proceeds to chatter about the latest thing that caught his interest. His mind bounces all over the place!
Wow! You *are* the first ENTJ that's commented!
Nice~ I'm ENTP, so that's pretty awesome!
About the topic of Poland-- if he's ENTP, then would Lithuania actually be INFJ? Or maybe he's too brooding to be a -J type...
